This website provides a brief summary of the Lane et al. v. Facebook, Inc. et al. class action lawsuit and describes your legal rights and options under the proposed settlement.
The Court in charge of this case is the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division. The case is known as Lane et al. v. Facebook, Inc. et al., Case No. 5:08-CV-03845-RS. The Defendants in this lawsuit are Facebook, Inc., Blockbuster, Inc., Fandango, Inc., Hotwire, Inc., STA Travel, Inc., Overstock.Com, Inc., Zappos.com, Inc., and Gamefly, Inc. This lawsuit relates to Facebookâs Beacon program. Beacon was designed to allow users to share information with their selected friends about actions taken on affiliated, but third- party, websites. The Plaintiffs in this lawsuit are claiming that they did not receive adequate notice and/or choice about how Facebook and its affiliates used Beacon to collect information about their web-browsing activity before it was sent to Facebook for publication. Facebook denies any and all liability for the claims alleged in this lawsuit. The Court has not decided in the favor of the Class or Facebook and the other Defendants at this time.
